PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect on it. For photographs, JPEG or WebP will be far smaller.

The result came out larger than the original. That usually means the original was already well compressed, or you asked for PNG from a photograph. Try JPEG or WebP, a lower quality, or a smaller maximum dimension.
